The premise of the book is that anger is okay and natural, and you do not need to feel ashamed or scared when you are angry. You can talk about your anger, and try to physically calm your body, but you cannot be abusive and hurt yourself, others, or property.If you are a parent hoping to help a child with anger issues, this is probably not the best book for you. It is basically a series of lesson plans designed for teachers/counselors to use when teaching students about anger and constructive ways to manage their anger.OTOH, I do plan to adapt a few of the lessons for my family. There are a few useful stories and worksheets that could reinforce some of the messages I am trying to get through to my children, such as: using "cold water" words to diffuse someone else's anger; figuring out "what lit the fuse" for an outburst of anger; slowly escalating your words "using your muscles" to explain when someone is bothering you, rather than exploding all at once; and coming up with "safe ways" to express anger, among others.

A Volcano in My Tummy: Helping Children to Handle AngerWhile this book does have some universal information that is useful, the primary objective seems to be aimed at class room environment for 6 to 10 year olds. I ordered this book when my boy was 3.5. So I couldn't make use of the lessons and activities. When my son gets a bit older it might be helpful even just at home. I read the book and it helped me think about my own anger and maybe gave me some ammo for dealing with his anger. But a better book I found was "What to do when your temper flares". That book gave us images of anger that were tangible. For example it likened allowing anger to run rampant is like driving a car. You have to learn how to drive and you have to learn how to handle anger. Even tho my boy is too young to drive he understood the concept immediately. This other book also says: It isn't what happens that makes you mad it's what you THINK about what happened that determines how you feel.In a group setting the lessons would be combined with class discussions but they don't lend themselves well to story time reading material. It isn't a bad book it just doesn't suit our needs. If you are a teacher or home schooler this might be just the thing.

As a play therapist, I needed something to help me work effectively with angry children. It was referred to me by a co-worker so I ordered it. The price was right and the contents was absolutely just what I wanted, needed, and oh so glad I have it. The lessons are short, easy to use with children, and the activities keep the children engaged in therapy. I love it. Amazing how quick the book shipped, it was brand new, packed really well,and this is how shopping should be.

I purchased this book when I got a divorce. I knew it would be hard on my 5 year old and I wanted to give her as much support as I possibly could. This book was amazing in helping my daughter work thru issues. I am happy to say that she is fairly well adjusted and give this book partial credit. She is now 8 and this books still sits on her bookshelf for whenever she may need it.

In 1922 Himalayan climbers were British gentlemen, and their Sherpa and Tibetan porters were "coolies," unskilled and inexperienced casual laborers. By 1953 Sherpa Tenzing Norgay stood on the summit of Everest, and the coolies had become the "Tigers of the Snow."

Jonathan Neale's absorbing new book is both a compelling history of the oft-forgotten heroes of mountaineering and a gripping account of the expedition that transformed the Sherpas into climbing legends. In 1934 a German-led team set off to climb the Himalayan peak of Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain on earth. After a disastrous assault in 1895, no attempt had been made to conquer the mountain for thirty-nine years. The new Nazi government was determined to prove German physical superiority to the rest of the world. A heavily funded expedition was under pressure to deliver results. Like all climbers of the time, they did not really understand what altitude did to the human body. When a hurricane hit the leading party just short of the summit, the strongest German climbers headed down and left the weaker Germans and the Sherpas to die on the ridge. What happened in the next few days of death and fear changed forever how the Sherpa climbers thought of themselves. From that point on, they knew they were the decent and responsible people of the mountain.

Jonathan Neale interviewed many old Sherpa men and women, including Ang Tsering, the last man off Nanga Parbat alive in 1934. Impeccably researched and superbly written, Tigers of the Snow is the compelling narrative of a climb gone wrong, set against the mountaineering history of the early twentieth century, the haunting background of German politics in the 1930s, and the hardship and passion of life in the Sherpa valleys.

Among the many accounts of mountain climbing in the Himalayas, Neale could not find any that focused on the Sherpas as an entity in their own right. So he resolved to make good the deficit by writing the history of the porters whose image has evolved from that of unskilled laborers to "tigers of the snow." Neale underscores that Sherpas view expeditions as a livelihood, making them more cautious about risks than most foreigners seeking to summit. His question to them--"Why do foreigners climb mountains?"--provoked laughter as he trekked around Sherpa villages conducting oral interviews. On that journey, he encountered Ang Tsering, who had been a porter on a 1934 siege of Nanga Parbat by a German group. It was a disaster, but Neale deems it the "turning point" in Sherpa history because it changed forever how the porters thought of themselves. Although occasionally digressive, Neale engagingly profiles the Sherpas' association with Western alpinists. Gilbert Taylor

About the Author
Jonathan Neale was born in New York, grew up in India and Texas, and lives in England. He has written three nonfiction books, three novels, and eleven plays. Neale has done anthropological field research with nomads in Afghanistan, sailed the Atlantic in a small boat, worked for several years as an AIDS counselor, written a Ph.D. thesis on naval mutinies in eighteenth-century Britain, and was part of the organizing committee for the protests against the G8 in Genoa in 2001. This book grew out of his love for trekking in the Himalayas.

This product has some great puzzles. Some of them I have not done before, like the sum sudoku, and it would be nice to give some hints as to how to solve it best. My main problem with it is the slick paper it is printed on. I use a pencil and it is really hard to print and erase on this slick paper. I would not buy it again unless that was changed.

I purchase this particular Sudoko Calendar every year. I love the variety of puzzle types and the challenges of the different levels. This year I also purchased one for my son-in-law.I wish more "variant" Sudoku puzzle books were available.

This is the second year of buying this for a Christmas gift and recently was enlightened to the fact that several dates on the July and August months in the Ultimate Sudoku calendar were not chronologically correlated; the manufacturer needs to have a more though quality inspector or hire some to obtain a premium product. Thanks!!!!!
