Mike Pearson is Professor of Performance Studies in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Michael Shanks is Professor of Classics and Cultural Anthropology at Stanford University. All chapters have been revised and present a complete overview of the techniques, processes and equipment involved in clinical dialysis as well as an overview of the complications of dialysis. The manual also provides an overview of common clinical problems related to renal failure such as hypertension, anemia and renal osteodystrophy.

Suhail Ahmad, M.D., is Professor of Medicine and Medical Director, Dialysis/Apheresis/Hypertension, University of Washington; Medical Director, Scribner Kidney Center; and Senior Medical Director, Northwest Kidney Centers, Seattle, Washington.

About the Author
Dr. Ahmad is Director of the Dialysis Laboratory at UWMC as well as the Lake City and Scribner Kidney Centers. He was recognized as "Teacher of the Year" (1999-2000, 2000-2001) by the Nephrology fellows. His clinical interests are in chronic renal failure, renal stones and hypertension. His research is directed at improving dialysis technology and perfecting the design of a "one button" portable dialysis machine.
